How Much Water Should You Drink?
March 14, 2013This past winter in San Antonio was incredibly mild. But it’s a safe bet that the summer temperatures won’t follow suit. It’s lining up to be a hot one – even hotter than normal according to some predictions. That means it will be more important than ever to keep your body hydrated.
But how much water are you really supposed to drink?
The answer is it depends. According to the Mayo Clinic and the Institute for Medicine, the average man living somewhere with average temperatures needs 13 cups of fluid a day. For women, it’s about nine cups a day. But San Antonio definitely doesn’t full under the “average” temperature formula, so add an extra cup or two to the total. In addition, add an extra two cups for exercise (if you work out).

We’ve all heard the advice for eight glasses of water by 8 p.m. The Mayo Clinic says, while it’s easy to remember, it’s a bit below the Institute of Medicine’s guidelines. So if it helps you remember to drink water, go for it.
