Water Softener Installation
How is a Water Softener Installed?
Although water softener installation may seem like a do-it-yourself project, it requires prior plumbing knowledge and should always be done by a professional. At Kinetico San Antonio, we take care of all the worry, so you can sit back and enjoy your new, soft water.
If you’re thinking about investing in a water softener, you may be concerned with where it will be placed and how it is installed. The installation process looks a little different for everyone, but below is a general installation scenario.
The water softener will usually be placed near the main water supply entry point to ensure the entire house receives soft water. The best placement for a water softener is oftentimes where it feeds into your water heater. This placement not only extends the life of your water heater by feeding it soft water, but it ensures your water softener won’t get damaged by hot water.
Some general requirements for your home’s plumbing include three gallons per minute coming in at the inlet and a water pressure maximum of 125 PSI. The softener will also need to be located near a drain. If your water supply operates off a well, the installation process is nearly identical, assuming your water enters your home at the main point feeding into your water heater.
Whether you’re opting for our Essential Series, Signature Series, or Premier Series Water Softener System, you’ll need room to have this installed. Although our Essential Series is just a single-tank system, it still requires space. Our twin-tank and multi-tank-designed water treatment systems need a little more room than the single-tank system, but be prepared to clear space near your main water supply entry point.
Choosing the Right System For Your Needs
After reading that last part, you’re probably wondering which system will you need for your home? Determining the right size water softener for your home is made easy with a simple equation. Multiply your water’s grains per gallon by the amount of water that is used per household, per day. (Don’t worry – we’ll help with that during your consultation.) It’s important to have a properly sized water softener to maximize efficiency and ensure you never run out of soft water. Another way to determine what system will work best for you is knowing what’s in your hard water. We provide a free water assessment to help you identify what minerals are in your water, specifically, and guide you to the best system to help your family. We're very glad we got this installed. The technician, Alberto, was very polite and thoroughly explained what he was doing and what we would need to do.
Alberto kept me informed on his arrival time. He was professional and exceeded my expectations concerning the install of the water filtration system. I also need to put a plug in for Tracy for her patience and skills at making things happen behind the scenes...a true unsung hero. They both deserve a raise!
I just had my system installed by Alberto and Jay, and I wanted to say that they rocked. Got it all in and gave me some instructions to follow, all while being determined to detail and professional. Thanks, fellas.
What is hard water?
Hard water is water that contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium and sometimes iron.
What is water softening?
The process of water softening is taking the minerals in hard water out, which provides clean, soft water to your home.
Why is water softening beneficial?
The minerals in hard water not only clog pipes and appliances, but they also prevent soap from washing off or out of things easily. Having a water softener system installed ensures your appliances will last longer, your hair and skin is healthy, and your detergent is fully washed out of your clothes to prevent fading.
Do Kinetico water softeners use electricity?
No, they’re fueled by the same water we push into your home! That means they’ll never go out when the power does.
