Places to Enjoy the Water this Summer

April 4, 2017 barton springs in austin

It’s almost summer, and that means it’s time to start thinking about where to take the kids once school lets out. Nothing beats the heat of Texas than jumping into cool water to relax in. Below, we’ve provided four places for a day trip away from San Antonio to enjoy water this summer. Don’t forget to hydrate, bring sunglasses and some sunscreen before you head out for some summer fun!

Comal River

Just outside of San Antonio is New Braunfels, a German-inspired town that has a great little downtown for tourists. Right in the heart of New Braunfels, you can go tubing down the Comal River with your friends and family. Tubes can be rented or bought at several businesses right along the river. The Comal River is also right by Schlitterbahn water park, which makes for a great day trip for the whole family.

Jacob’s Well

Rumors have been floated that no one has ever touched the bottom of Jacob’s Well. This well is different – you can’t see or touch the bottom since it’s such a deep hole. Jacob’s Well is great for those of you who like standing on the rock ledge or jumping into the water. This underground spring is one of the clearest and freshest sources of water around in Wimberley, Texas.

October through April is the aquatic and riparian restoration period. Jacob’s Well is currently closed but is open for reservations for the 2017 summer season. No fee is required to enter the natural area or view the spring. Fees and reservations are required for swimming access. Reservation information is available online.
