Hard Water vs Soft WaterSeptember 11, 2020
Water plays a part in our daily lives as we clean dishes, wash clothes, take showers or grab a glass to quench our thirst. For the amount that we use it, it should be safe and viable for our household. But not all water is created equal. Here are the differences between hard and soft water to determine which is the best for you.
Hard water vs soft water make-up
Hard city water or well water contains calcium and magnesium – and the higher the level of these minerals, the harder the water. Here in San Antonio and the Hill Country, we have some of the hardest water in the entire country. Unfortunately, hard water can damage your hair, skin and your home appliances.
On the other hand, soft water uses salt to eliminate these other minerals. Without such hard minerals, soft water is gentler on your home as well as your body. It’s preferred water type for cleaning, as it doesn’t leave stains or spots on your dishes or glasses. You also use less detergent, soap and shampoo with soft water.
Scale build-up with hard water
When you use hard water for cleaning, you will notice streak marks and stains left on your dishes and even your sink fixtures. This is due to the hard water heating up and causing calcium deposits to form. If this begins to build up, it can leave lasting damage to the performance and longevity of your appliances. Calcium buildup can occur on your pipes, sink fixtures and even your coffee machine. Your electricity bill will increase with your appliances beginning to wear down due to scale buildup.
Does your home have hard water? Here’s a post we wrote detailing signs you may have hard water in your home.
How is hard water measured? You can purchase a testing kit online but we offer a free water test to residents of San Antonio and the hill country!
A solution to hard water is to invest in a water softener. A water filtration system, or softening system, uses resin to coat the hard water in order to soften it. Having a water softener will help your appliances work better and last longer, saving you money in the long run. Kinetico water systems offer you better and healthier water in a way that can save you money and energy. If you are in need of a water softener, contact Kinetico SA today.

We're very glad we got this installed. The technician, Alberto, was very polite and thoroughly explained what he was doing and what we would need to do.
Alberto kept me informed on his arrival time. He was professional and exceeded my expectations concerning the install of the water filtration system. I also need to put a plug in for Tracy for her patience and skills at making things happen behind the scenes...a true unsung hero. They both deserve a raise!
I just had my system installed by Alberto and Jay, and I wanted to say that they rocked. Got it all in and gave me some instructions to follow, all while being determined to detail and professional. Thanks, fellas.
