Reverse Osmosis

What is Reverse Osmosis?

reverse osmosis san antonioAt Kinetico San Antonio, we make it easy to provide and enjoy the purest possible drinking water right from your own home. Our K5 reverse osmosis drinking water systems are unmatched in contaminant removal and gallon per day production. RO models have revolutionized water purification and are even used to tackle huge projects like seawater desalination and waste water purification.

To understand reverse osmosis you must first understand osmosis. Merriam-Webster defines osmosis as “the movement of a solvent through a semipermeable membrane into a solution of higher solute concentration that tends to equalize the concentrations of solute on the two sides of the membrane.” Lost yet?

For an easy visual, imagine a glass divided down the middle by a “semipermeable membrane” aka a filter. On one side, you pour a solution of water and salt. On the other side, you pour plain old water (solvent). Plain water will now move through the membrane into the saltwater’s side in order to balance out the salt-to-water ratio and reach the osmotic pressure (the amount of pressure needed to nullify osmosis).  So, that’s it. In osmosis, water will pass through a semipermeable membrane or filter to dilute the more concentrated solution.

Now that you understand osmosis, let’s reverse it. All that’s needed to make this process run in reverse is a little pressure. (Enough to overcome the osmotic pressure.) Your home’s existing water pressure is all you’ll need. That pressure is applied on the solution (your tap water) allowing the water to pass through the membrane (filter) while leaving unwanted particles and contaminants to be flushed away down the drain. Our Kinetico reverse osmosis system removes all contaminants larger than 0.0001 microns. To use the same visual example as we did while describing osmosis, apply pressure to the saltwater, and eventually you’ll be left with clean water on one side and only salt on the other.

Does Kinetico offer San Antonio Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Systems?

Both the Aquakinetic and the K5 Drinking Water Systems include a reverse osmosis membrane to filter out contaminants.

  • The K5 is certified to remove more contaminants than ANY other reverse osmosis system. It utilizes a multi-step filtration system including two customizable filters for your area specific problems. With our FlexFiltration options, you can opt for additional protection with the VOC Guard, Arsenic Guard, Purefecta Guard or Perchlorate Guard. If you prefer the taste or health benefits of the minerals that are lost in filtration, FlexFiltration also offers Mineral Plus. K5 owners can pick two of these five options for purified water tailored to their tastes.
  • The Aquakinetic features a high-capacity pre-filter, premium reverse osmosis membrane and carbon post-filter. All of this comes in a small, low maintenance, system with an attractive lead-free faucet to dispense your purified water.

How Can a Reverse Osmosis System Benefit My Home and Family?

All of our FlexFiltration options offer additional protection against harmful contaminants that are found in tap water. The VOC Guard protects against volatile organic compounds like cleaning supplies, pesticides and paint that commonly contaminate drinking water. The Purefecta Guard removes nearly 100% of bacteria and viruses from your drinking water. Viruses like Hepatitis A and bacterial infections like E Coli can be transferred through the ingestion of contaminated water. Keep your family safe from the health hazards including bacteria, viruses, carcinogens, perchlorates and even arsenic, that can be in your water. Health concerns aside, filtered water tastes better and improves the taste of food cooked with it.

All of our drinking water systems are environmentally responsible. An in-home drinking water purification system will put a stop to bottled water waste from your home. As a bonus, Kinetico systems won’t add a dime to your energy bill. All of our powered-by-water products are low maintenance and extremely energy efficient.
